Gavin started this week off with a cough. Not a bad one, it was very productive and he did not have a fever, so we did not take him into the ER. On Wednesday Oct 14 all the kids and mom had Dentist appointments. Gavin was first and they are still not able to get an X-ray of his teeth. His tongue wants to keep pushing it out. The girl at the office was so great with him, she told him to tell his tongue to leave it along. So he thinks and says "Tongue leave it along, OK I am ready". She is able to get a not so good one of the right side. On the left she tells him just one more, so he thinks and says "Just one more" to his thong and then "OK I am ready". Still no luck oh well maybe next time. A cleaning and No cavities. So Allyson and Tristan go. They get a cleaning and No cavities as well. Later when I go to pick them up from school Allyson is crying. She was fine when I took her after her appointment. I took her back to daycare so I could go to my appointment and she does this on the office floor at Jolene's.
So as it seems she is really tired. Later that night she is still really lethargic and running a low grade fever. Around 99.6. So we give her some Tylenol and sent her right to bed. She sleeps all night and the next day is still not feeling well. Fever still right around 100. So she stays home from school, her first missed day, but is at Jolene's house. She sleeps off and on most of the day. I take her home that night put her right to bed at 6pm and she sleeps again all night. Now she has done this before when there is no other reason but a low fever. It drives me crazy. What is the reason? I know she is fighting something but as a mom I want to fix it. Oh well no luck this time as well. Anyways on Friday she is feeling much better but still in her eyes looks like she is still not feeling well. So we keep her home one more day. Still no visit to the ER. Dad misses his softball game on Thursday night because he did not feel well, but he was fine the next day. The weekend comes and we are looking forward to a nice quiet weekend. NOT!!!
So for the next round it is child #1 well in this story he is child #3. So mom is at the store, dad calls her and his voice is pure panic!! Not an understatement. He tells her that Tristan has broke his arm and that he is taking him to the fire station since it is right around the corner. While there the fireman tells dad to calm down that Tristan is feeding of him and does not want to hear of an accident that he caused. So mom checks out and when they talk again he is on his way to the ER. She takes everything home and finds a mess. Dad really did leave in a panic!! Again not an understatement. The yard is a mess and the key hook and anything that was on it was on the floor. So mom gets to the Hospital and into the room and they have Tristan in x-ray. Gavin and Allyson are sitting so good coloring. Dad comes back in and says that it is a clean break. They bring Tristan back in and dad tells mom not to cry that it is really bad!!
Well it was bad but not what I expected, so mom was a little relieved. Tristan told dad that he wanted mom to stay with him. So dad takes Allyson and Gavin home. The Doctor came in and said that it was an Uncomplicated Dislocation. Which was great news after what dad had said?? The next couple of hours were spent like this next picture. He was in and out. The Doctor was not sure if he was going to fix it there in the ER or if they were going to move him. If they were going to give him a local or put him out. It all came down to weather or not they would have the staffing for Tristan to have his own nurse for an hour after.
While this was going on they have him an IV. The nurse giving it to him told him that yes it was going to hurt and that he could cry and scream all he wanted but he could not move his arm or he would have to try again. Tristan did not want to look so mom held her hand next to his face. She told him that she was not worried many times this day and that he should not be and this helped to calm him down. Well he did cry and scream but did not move his arm once! He did great.
So they did a Conscious Sedation. Most kids fall asleep during this time. He stayed awake. He was talking to the nurse and asked if he would hear everyone. So she told him that she would tell him a color just before they start and then ask him for it later. He heard it all and even screamed while they put it back into place but does not remember it. He did remember the color she told him, Orange. He talked to everyone who came in. Our Bishop from church was there with his grandson and took a few minutes to stop by and see Tristan. They made him a splint right there.
This picture was right after they put the splint on. He wanted me to take this picture.
This picture was just 1 hour after and he looks so different. He talked the nurses ear off. She just loved him. You know Tristan, he is such the ladies man.
This was taken as we were leaving the hospital.
All in all he did very well. The next Monday he saw the Orthopedist who said that he only has to wear the splint for 1 week and then the next week could take it off every few hours to stretch it out and then he should be fine. Here is how Tristan hurt his arm. He was riding his razor scooter and was hoping up a curb like Dad taught him to do. He lost control and fell locking his arm straight. This is the third time he has hurt the same elbow.
